were it to do so相当于if虚拟语气，if it were to do so
it were to do so指代前面little of the polar ice melts
其实后面的would也是一个小小提示。。。

我看了答案以后一开始理解的是：and前后要平行，前面是主系表，后面也应该是，如果省略be动词，至少前面用复数后面也要用复数，不知道我的愚见对不对，请nn指正！

不过一个无关解题的问题：temperatures are so cold ？是否应该用low呀，weather才能说是cold 和hot呀，

为啥要用 were it to do so .... 感觉完全没必要。。。。。。但是这道题前面必须一致所以只能选这个，
