grow to be 30 ft long, grow 30 ft long, grow to 30 ft long这三种表达，哪个正确？

或者说哪个错误？

做题碰到好几次这种情况了，凭语感认为grow to be 30 ft long的be是多余的。但正确答案却又是这个。

有大牛能解释一下这三种表达的对错吗？如果都对，则各自意思有什么差别？如果错误，分析一下怎么错了？

GMAT 的题目本身就不存在 ”绝对正确” 和 “绝对错误” 的选项，选哪个，不选哪个都是具体问题具体分析的。不能像国内某些培训机构总结的那样，看到be been ing 就必错的。
你提问的这道题应该是
The 32 species that make up the dolphin family are closely related to whales and in fact include the animal known as the killer whale, which can grow to be 30 feet long and is famous for its aggressive hunting pods.
(A) include the animal known as the killer whale,which can grow to be 30 feet long and is

growing (判断verb-ing....就是看前一句和后面这句有没有必然联系"are closely related" and "include" .也就是. Does the killer whale grows due to close relation and inclusion. 不相关，因此错误）
B.growing X
C.growing X
只剩下A了所以就选咯

还有其他的一些问题，比如这里说的是length 没说 size 问题所以用big 是有问题的。（B,D）排除掉
再比如 and 的用法 E 里面的it 就有问题了所以排除掉

感谢回答！其实我的问题确实来自于您说的这道题，但其实不限于这道题。

OG里有几道类似的题：

OG 13的SC 第30题： be estimated to be XX years old；
OG 13的SC 第32题：grow to be XXX feet long；
OG 13的SC 第140题： be dated at years old;
.....

这里就迁出一个知识点：
表达“达到某个程度”，包括reduce、increase、grow、decline等等这些动词后面的搭配是否有普适性的原则，或者哪些是自己特殊的固定搭配？

比如：
是：动词+to+be+数词+量词+表程度的形容词；如：reduce to be 30 feet long；
还是：动词+to+数词+量词+表程度的形容词；如：reduce to 30 feet long；
或是：动词+to+数词+量词：如：reduce to 30 feet；

像date这个词，OG的解释就是固定搭配：be dated at XXX years old; 而be dated to be...的表达法是错误的；

虽然这些点貌似在部分题里不是唯一考点，但还是有一定的频次出现，所以还是想了解一下。

很抱歉哦，做题的时候没仔细研究过这么细致的语法点，都是用其他的排除掉的
