楼主你好，我个人的浅见是：将句子缩略读为the first trenches have yield evidence that。。。感觉更加符合逻辑。

关于第一个问题：
是说 northern regions 的复杂社会arose simultaneously with 在southern Mesopotamia的有威望的城邦的，但是同时也是arose independently of 在southern Mesopotamia的有威望的城邦的。就是试同时成长，但是又是独立成长起来的。

第二个问题：
centrally administered complex societies是主语，arose是谓语（simultaneously和indepently是状语修饰主语是如何arose的），more celebrated city-states是宾语
