关于曼哈顿语法里面句子的问题

这个句子里面说尽管had eclipsed 不是整句话的 earliest action，但它是 second independent clause 中两个动作较早的那一个
请问是哪两个动作鸭！！！

首先，看这个句子，有三个时间。
Was处在最早的时间，也就是in the early 1980's
Had eclipsed处在第二个时间段，也就是1980's<x<1990's，对应less than ten years later
v+ed或者be 处在第三个时间段，也就是1990's

Had eclipsed相比于Was，必然就不是the earliest action
而第二个分句里，Had eclipsed在和v+ed作比较。
我从哪里看出还有一个v+ed的存在呢？
过去完成时：对过去的某一点造成的某种影响或是结果。
消除大部分早期竞争对手这件事 必然发生在 乐队林立这件事之后
那么你要使用Had eclipsed，消除大部分早期竞争对手这件事 就必须 发生在某件事之前。
所以我们可以推断出，其后还有一件事的存在，大概率是1990's U2独霸了摇滚乐坛
也就是Had eclipsed对1990's造成的影响或是结果。
所以得使用过去完成时

这样就能得知， Had eclipsed在和v+ed作比较，而其时间段则对应 1980's<x<1990's和1990's

好像是因为前后比较东西不一样？
要写 as much as the price of that one
(我也不确定。。。从别的地方看到的
