Despite the comprehensive nature of the problem as opposedto a MFE, most graduates seem to stay in banking/trading desk/asset managementroles and very few seem to venture into corporate finance roles, especiallyinto tech-industry, one of MIT's strengths. Is this based simply on the studentpreferences? Focus of the program? Recruiters' interest? Geographical factors?Thank you!

08:47:37 PM
Fang...we are less concerned about the "prestige"of the company or title level of the recommender and more interested in hearingfrom a direct supervisor who knows your work well and can respond to questionsabout what you have contributed to the organization and how well you haveworked in difficult situations and as part of a team, among the other questionsthe recommender will need to answer
Anne Kiely, Admissions

Hi Shuhuan. You should mention this experience on yourresume but it is not considered intern or full time employment and should notbe listed under the employment section.

Proseminars, the FinanceResearch Practicum as well as invited speakers to campus through student clubsand our career development office. VC and PE roles are very competitive toobtain here in the US, but we do have students who are successful in securingthese types of positions.

I am seriously considering the 18-month pilot format of theMFin Program. Hence I am wondering what are (if any) material differencesbetween two formats e.g. regarding order of MFin courses taken or total numberof credits? My understanding was that the 18-month format provided moreflexibility to MFin students and all other features of the program remained thesame. Thank you!

I want to apply sloan MBA also, do I need differentrecommenders ?
Anne Kiely, Admissions
08:57:25 PM
Hi Yingying and Pengyang. No, you can't transfer between the12 and 18. The 18 and the 12 have the same number of degree required credits. With the 18 you can take more elective courses since the degree requirement for12 and 18 are the same. Since it is the same you can also chose to spread outthe degree requirements over the extra semester if you want to take a lighterload of classes during the first year.
