就说B选项去掉it，这个是可以的。这里相当于v-ing做verb modifier。
如果Based on..., scholars ....
这是不对的。 Past participle ("based on ...") 是作为noun modifier，而不是作为verb modifier。

In your OG example, the word (based) now has an -ed ending, not an -ing ending. This is now a noun modifier, and the first noun after the comma is scholars. So it basically says the scholars themselves are "based on accounts of various ancient writers." That's not what we want to say; we want to say the scholars used the accounts of various ancient writers to do something else. So we change to an -ing form (using) so that we can correctly modify the clause: scholars have painted X using accounts of Y.
11. Based on the recent decline in enrollment, theadmissions office decided to reevaluate its recruitment strategies.
Based on ... enrollment: INCORRECT. As a nounmodifier, the past participle based modifies admissions office. However,the intention of the sentence is not that the admissions office itselfis based on the recent decline in enrollment. The phrase based on X is often incorrectly used inplace of the prepositional phrase because of, which cancorrectly modify the verb phrase decided to reevaluate.
Correction: Because of the recent decline in enrollment, theadmissions office decided to reevaluate its recruitment strategies.
RIGHT: Theverdict was BASED ON the evidence.
The jury reached averdict BASED ON the evidence.
WRONG:
BASED ON theevidence, the jury reached a verdict.
(The jury was notitself BASED ON the evidence.)
看了论坛里的帖子，目前based on完全理解，但没弄清楚basing的用法 oxford advanced learner's dictionary 里base on用法是base sth on/upon sth以……为基础（或根据） eg.
