正确答案为B，有疑问的是选项B中because that is the direction of...that看意思的指代对象是上句中travel from east to west,可是that作为代词不是只能指代名词么？那这里的that岂不是没有指代对象？那选项B也有问题吗？多谢指教！

别纠结于正确答案为啥正确，应该想错误的选项犯了啥GMAT认为不能容忍的错误。不过就你这个问题，我觉得that指的就是个方向，east to west。

1）首先，代词错误在GMAT里面是一个需要靠后考虑的错误，刷题的时候经常发现有的句子里的代词错误，但到别的题目里却没问题；
令，给楼主附一道these代词直接指代也是正确选项的题目

2）redundancy 原则违背是必错的==>至少目前刷OG没碰到redundancy是对的
at first和begin重复==》A 错；
这个从BCDE里面两个词都只有保留了其中之一可以看出来，对词的增减要敏感，察觉是否有语义变化

3）平行原则违背是必错的
分析这个句子原句，存在句意的转折“but”
first： begin travelling东西向（经度）
but then: veer off 向高纬度（维度）
所以可以判断，转折语义合理, hurricane发出的两个动词 begin travel或者travel 和 veer off需要平行；
那么E不平行，错
D把转折变因果，错误
C项while从句，+主句，没有主句，错误
