both的习惯用法：both...and...，而且前后的话遵循GMAT公理，and 前后平行对等。这里楼主要读好题干Thelonious Monk, who was a jazz pianist and composer, produced a body of work both rooted in the stride-piano tradition of Willie (The Lion) Smith and Duke Ellington, yet in many ways he stood apart from the mainstream jazz repertory.标黑的地方就是区别，and前后两个根本不是对等的，其实这句话逻辑上是想说两个人，一个是TM,另外一个是DE,原文的意思是想说，TM这个人创作的作品扎根于Willie Smith的 stride piano里的，而DE这个人，跟主流的爵士是分开来的所以both在这里根本就是多余的，本身and前后说的就不是一件事情，是连接两个句子的，both一般是在说一件事的两个方面的，所以Both肯定不对啊
