If I would have a chance to go back to the past, I would like to go to the ancient china around two thousand years ago, a society in which people enjoyed great peaceful life. I would justify my preference as follows:

First reason for my choice is that life in that period is much more enjoyable. Compared to today’s society in which many people have to devote most of their time and energy to learn various kinds of complex knowledge and skills in order to keep a decent living standard, in ancient china, skills and knowledge needed for life are far more simple than today and not always fast changing. As a result, people in that period enjoyed more leisure time and could easily pursue many recreational activities, such as travelling, sports games and stay with family.

Another reason for my preference is that people lived in ancient china enjoyed better natural environment. Unlike today’s environment which is full of various kinds problems, such as air pollution, excessive deforestation and dust storms, caused by modern industrial activities, in ancient china, as an agricultural society, people enjoyed great beauty of the nature without any today’s environmental problems at all. People today can clearly tell（明白，感受，体会）these feelings form thousands of fascinating ancient Chinese poems depicted the significant scenery of the nature.

What’s more, in that great period of china, there are lots of famous philosophers, educators and poets whose wisdom still benefit today’s Chinese people significantly. If I could go back to that period, I would have a chance to meet those people for whom I respected greatly. I would ask for their opinions about how to improve our society today.

In a final analysis, as a matter of fact, I do not really believe that I can go back to the past. I am just convinced that, as the development of human society, people are becoming more and more demanding for various natural resources and some of the excellent traditions that once contribute hugely to the society have disappeared. I suggest that people today should pay more attention to our environmental protection and many other social problems and thus further improve our life.
