Should all parents volunteer their time to their children's schools? Well, in my point of view, it depends. Participating in children's school time makes parents learn more about their children, and give them the chance to provide specific suggestions to their children. Although spending time with the children has these advantages, it also has some disadvantages. For example, it will reduce the parents' working time, so as to reduce the income of certain families, which, in turn, will have some bad effects on the growth of these children.
Let me give you a detailed example. Assume there is a family, and the parents play two different roles to support the whole family. The father works hard and makes the family rich, and on the other hand, the mother is a full-time housewife. That's to say, the mother has a lot of time to take care of their child, and if the mother volunteers her time to her child's school, this family will not collapse because of economic reasons. However, if both of the parents in a family have to work hard to cover the cost of living, they will not have the ability to volunteer their time to be with their child in school.
Now suppose that the family is rich enough, so that the parents do not have to work outside. Is it always a good choice to participate in children's school life?
It is true that the more knowledge about the children the parents have, the more guidances and suggestions the parents could give to the children. If their child is a student at elementary school, these guidances and suggestions would become much more significant for the child, since parents' teaching through words and deeds plays a important role in the shaping of all good habits. However, for a family with a child who is a middle school student, excessive caring from parents builds a brick wall for the child, on the path to developing his independent personality. In this case, it would be better for the parents to leave more space for the child.
