白勇解释：
C选项，and 连接once从句和名词短语its superiority, 两者形式不对称。
正确答案，选B.

疑问：
1. 这里C选项不是可以看成
the social usefulness of ... was demonstrated and its superiority... (was) proved.
and 连接两句，后句省略be动词吗？
不选C是不是因为superiority 不能与to 搭配？要与over搭配？

2. B选项为什么要用had been? 而不用一般过去时？这里好像看不出and连接的两句有明显先后关系啊...

superiority 和 prove的关系应该是被动，and前后的2个主语不一致，不适合省略吧

我的理解是
最好用过去完成时，因为要先prove才可以demonstrate，
C，be是不可以省略的，因为and连接，两个是平行结构，所以被动的话be是不可以省的~
