it和that的指代

(A) than前后比较对象不对等，应该由that指代manner。
(B) it指代hominids’ manner，不符合逻辑。
(C) 正确，less… than搭配，that指代manner。
(D) regard… to be用法错误。
(E) regard… to have用法错误；it指代hominids’ manner，不符合逻辑。

我开始选的B，觉得应该用it指代manner of walking, 而不是用that指代manner. 因为后面没有说和现代人的哪种manner比较。请各位不吝赐教，非常感谢。

that则只指核心词 manner of walking

我的疑惑是E选项中的it(will expand...)不是有指代不清的嫌疑吗？因为既可以指代Sun也可指代hydrogen. 如果不用常识，hydrogen 不一定不可expand into...。或者在这种结构中it一般指代前面的主语？

E选项的it之所以指代Sun不指代hydrogen ，是因为按结构平行原则，it与Sun均为两个句子的主语，要求对应一致，所以自然而然指代Sun。

我个人感觉是不是因为B选项里是 than it is in多了个is
