答案是B选项，我也根据语义的方面弄明白这个选项了。
但是我想知道为什么这里的A C中的than a year ago不行呢？我直接比较状语不行么，now和 a year ago相比？求各位NN解答~

对于正确答案A，Ron解释说
yeah, i don't like this either.
but the fact is that it doesn't contain any of the errors that plague the other choices. read on.

但是显然其余答案错误更明显更离谱

在你的这题里
C的错误应该更多在于那个despite以及后面的那个句子
同时你也应该知道，B里面的结构才是GMAT里更加正确的答案

比较只有以下这些形式，没有直接比较时间状语这样的形式，因为它比较的是在不同时间下的相同事物，但是事物的含义是不同的。

比如，我今天花的钱比我昨天的花的钱，多5块。你说它们比较的都是我花的钱，所以我只比较今天和昨天就行了，这是错误的。这题比较对象是主语，注意是主语，虽然它们比较的是同一个事物prices at the producer level，但是prices at the producer level now和prices at the producer level 1 year ago是两个不同的事物。
如果只是用than a year ago，比较对象会有歧义，看上去是在用rate(1.3 percent) 和a year ago比较，为了避免歧义，those of 1 year ago is needed.

主语比较：  A do sth than B do.（AB为对等名词，加do是为了显示这是一个可以发出动作的名词，因而确定是主语，进而确定是主语对比）
介宾比较：  A do sth of C1 by D1 than of C2 by D2.（C1C2，D1D2对等名词）
宾语比较：  A do C1 than C2.(C1C2为对等名词）
状语比较：  A do sth than usual/everbefore/people expected(直接加状语）

这道超难题的答案是5个选项之间比较出来的，我论坛上找到了一个比较好的答案，你可以参考：http://forum.chasedream.com/thread-1053205-1-1.html

这道题网络上争议很大，也是问的极多的一道题，因为Fewer than have been ... 当中缺少了主语，按照严格的语法来说，这里需要those或者the people
但是因为其他4个选项错误更加明显，相比之下B选项更加合适，如下：

Only seven people this century have been killed by the great white shark, the man-eater of the movies——less than those killed by bee stings.
A.movies——less than those：those指代people，可数名词要用fewer来修饰
B.movies——fewer than have been：fewer修饰people正确，have been killed by bee stings和have been killed by the great white shark很好地平行
C.movies, which is less than those：which非限定性修饰跳过整个同位语修饰the great white shark逻辑错误，就算可以指代到主语7 people也不对，which是不能指代人的；those指代people，less要用fewer
D.movies, a number lower than the people：破折号变为了逗号，a number在这里只能同位语了，但是它概括或者指代的内容不清，而且number和people比较错误
E.movies, fewer than the ones：the one可以指代人，ones不能指代人；The ones在这里有指代歧义，可能指代:the movies。

以上排除的理由个人理解可能不同。

所以很遗憾，没有放之四海皆准的标准，可以看一下ron在国外论坛对于这道题很多解答。

多谢多谢，看了Ron的解答明白好多。决定明天吧Ron讲的关于比较的视频看一遍~
可是其实我也明白SC应该是用比较的方法来做，可是在做题时有时候会碰到觉得哪一个选项都有瑕疵的时候，不知道你是怎么做的呢？依据语感么？

我认为就算E选项更改为were as disturbing in his own time as 仍然不正确
我也是边查资料边回答这个问题的，我觉得这个知识，尤其是这道题，OG的解释从头到尾未谈as...as的结构是有其原因的，我度娘到了一个新的知识，这个知识叫做“异质比较”，感兴趣地来看一下吧，可以解释这道题。但是OG的官方解释并未由此入手，而是将focus在了时态上，说明他们的不希望我们从这个角度来理解吧。
所以从时态入手，5个选项相互比较，不要钻的太深啦！就会变得Complicated了....

按照你说的，
Thomas Eakins's powerful style and his choices of subject were as disturbing to his own time as compelling for ours.
是不是有点问题？先分析一下比较关系的核心，这里到底什么是比较对象？

主语是TE's style and choices，比较的是disturbing to his own time 和compelling for ours( our own time)
同一个东西，展现出的不同特征之间可比吗？当然不能比，那么as...as在这里到底在比什么？
比较的是它们各自的程度，可以翻译为“TE的风格在他的time有多disturbing，对我们的时代就有多compelling。” 是不是程度比较非常明确了？
既然比较的是程度，那么就跟省略全部没有关系了，这个句型就叫做“异质比较”，指的是将两个性质内容不同的比较项进行比较。尽管二者性质迥然不同，但它们各自所达到的程度是可比的，通过这样的对式可以突出目标项的效果。
