请教OG 184的一道语法题，有个选项的语法没有看懂

答案是A，我想问的是D选项，many companies unable to pass on higher costs，这个插入语的语法是怎么回事？我觉得是不是前面应该加个as，变成 as many companies unable to pass on higher costs 才比较对呢？

as表达“随着”必须要跟句子吧，所以还要加上谓语。
而且前文说as measured.....后面跟的就是陈述的内容，用and来连接两个事情，最后加个伴随。这要好过but加插入语再接第二个事情。这里我个人觉得用but不是很信服。而且改变了原句只是要陈述profits如何变化的语境。

噢，但是我觉得
many companies unable to pass on higher costs

这个插入语的存在不符合语法啊，它既不是同位语，也不是Ving 或者Ved这种形式，请问英文中有这样的语法吗

这个不是插入，many companies就是they的先行词啊，unable是修饰作用，其实就是an, many companies +修饰, they.....
只是起了个说明修饰的作用，没有语法问题

不好意思啊，我还是不理解，
如果是先行词的话，这句话缺少类似which，that的引导词，所以还是不合逻辑啊。。。

能举个别的类似语法的句子吗？
