这道题求教大神的解答！！！！我糊涂了不会做！求教！

Recently discovered gravitational lensing around certain proximate stars strongly suggests that the nine planets of our solar system are a common phenomenon in the universe rather than developing incidentally from a unique galactic phenomenon several billion years ago.
A.rather than developing incidentally from
B.rather than a type that developed incidentally from
C.rather than a type whose development was incidental of
D.instead of developing incidentally from
E.instead of a development that was incidental of
本题的答案是B，我选了E。请大家不要上来就说rather than优于instead of，所以排除DE这样的话好么，小弟真心求教正确解答！
我的疑惑是：nine planets在句子里被认为是a phenomenon，那么它在划线部分我不知道它不能作为a type，还是作为a development，于是我就晕了，BE搞不清楚了。
求朋友们走过路过教我一下！

你说对了，这个不是rather than和Instead of的问题，而是什么跟什么比较的问题
我简单提炼一下主干结构，gravitational lensing suggests that the nine planets are a common phenomenon rather than ( …… ) ，这样你就可以看到是phenomenon跟一个东西来比较，那这个东西应该也是类似的抽象名词，然后be incidental of是个很蹩脚的用法，其实我读完题目第一个想法就是incidental development from，E中that was incidental of显然更蹩脚了，而且没有了from语义也不对，再者developed incidentaly from是个非常自然而漂亮的表达，在GMAT里simple&straight就是一种美，不知这个解释楼主满意否

the nine planets of our solar system 确实可以说是一个“现象”、“种类”或者一个“组织” 但是不可能说是一个“发展”吧？
这里应该是一个具体名词和具体名词的比较
应该就是曼哈顿里说的 concrete名词不能和abstract平行的一种吧
