求教 sc的一题！！

正确答案是E。但是有一个不明白的是，为什么E中caused用了过去时但是后面那个mark不用？that…that…不是要平行结构的吗？？
求大神指导感激不尽！！！

并不是an event that ..that..句型
而是extinctions mark... 灭绝标志着地质年代的结束~

那标志结束的话，那mark也应该用过去式吖是过去的事件嘛
