In any field of endeavor, it is impossible to make a significant contribution without first being strongly influenced by past achievements within that field.
In this era of rapidly social development and technological advancement, in any field, many significant contributions promote the development of this discipline and play an ancillary role for other researches. Admittedly, a few important contributions, especially discoveries, are made incidentally in human history. However, it is no doubt that the majority of achievements that surprises people and promotes the development of society are influenced by past foundations within that field.
First of all, for almost all contributions that made by people, those past achievements laid excellent bases which cannot be underplayed. It is safe to say that the whole society, obviously, are constructed on the past achievements predecessors gained. For example, Kepler, one of the most eminent astrophysicists in the Europe, found the true elliptical shape of the orbits of planets. Nonetheless, it is Tycho, his teacher, a famous astronomer, whose observation data attributed to Kepler’s achievement that laid vital foundation for him. Thus, people cannot underplay those contributions made by the past because they clear out a series of conundrums that might hamper the occurrence of new fruit.
Moreover, these past achievements, frequently, can vitalize thinking and inspire people so that they view their researches from various perspectives which may do favors for them. In modern times, different kinds of fields have crossed a lot. This means that many researches, if conductor can regard them from other similar branches, obtain remarkable progress. Cantor, for instance, one of the most preeminent mathematicians in the 19th century, constructed his cardinal theory——set theory that has become the significant basis of modern math. Unexceptionably, it is medieval philosophy that inspired him to a certain extent. Consequently, the past achievements often play an ancillary role for the contemporary contributions.
Nevertheless, we have to concede that in spite of the contributions reaped by precursors, several discoveries and fundamental achievements were not strongly impacted by them. Undoubtedly, there are a series of independent discoveries and breakthroughs full of fortuity. For example, Alexander Fleming, a British bacteriologist, was celebrated in human history due to his discovery of penicillin. His discovery of penicillin came about accidentally in the course of research on influenza. As a result, people should not completely underestimate the power of success in the light of incident, though they seem to be difficult to predict.
In conclusion, granted that a couple of contributions trending to fortuity might be little relevant to the past, people should, incontrovertibly, realize that the majority of success is strongly affected by past achievements.
