疑问关于“比较结构常出现的数字比较” 求解答！！！！！！！

我想请问一下在以下1.2.两题中， a/the number 不能指代前文出现的“seven" 和“4000”么？是不是只能像第3题那样，只有一个光秃秃的数字 20% 才能用the number指代？

1.Only seven people this century have been killed by the great white shark, the man-eater of the movies—less than those killed by bee stings.
A.movies—less than those

B.movies—fewer than have been

C.movies, which is less than those

D.movies, a number lower than the people

E.movies, fewer than the ones
Answer is B

2.When drive-ins were at the height of their popularity in the late 1950’s, some 4,000 existed in the United States, but today there are less than one-quarter that many.

A. there are less than one-quarter that many
B. there are fewer than one-quarter as many
C. there are fewer than one-quarter of that amount
D. the number is less than one-quarter the amount
E. it is less than one-quarter of that amount
答案B （已经知道4000是代词指代4000 drive-ins)

3.According to surveys by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, about 20 percent of
young adults used cocaine in 1979, doubling those reported in the 1977 survey.
(A) doubling those reported in the 1977 survey
(B) to double the number the 1977 survey reported
(C) twice those the 1977 survey reported

我知道D中，数字不能跟人比。但是B中的fewer是作结果状语么？fewer比较的两个对象是什么？是people killed by sharks 和 people killed by bee sting么？可是前面主句的主语是 seven people ,没有出现people,可以把前文根本没出现的概念拿来做比较么?

并且看之前NN的帖子，说是比较的时候，补出谓语也要补出主语.B就没有补出主语. ....

我都糊涂了麻烦各位NN解答下吧跟我有同样疑问的朋友们也请留下你们脚印.....

第三题
A doubling 应该是指百分比这个数值而不是young adults 句子相比较的也是百分比的变化所以those不对应该是单数 doubling the number reported in the...比较精确
B to double 不用表达目的
C 与A的问题类似
D 句子是相比较百分比的变化百分比是具体数值 the number 不能用 much 来形容 much 形容的是不可数名词
E 最符合 PREP 里面的解释

总之注意比较的是 the number 是一个 numerical quantity 而不是 countable noun 会好办一些
第二题也是类似的嘎嘎
