an email from MIT - The MLOG Program at MIT

The MLOG Program at MIT
Shaping Tomorrow's Corporate Supply Chain Leaders
Master Degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management

I'm writing today to offer you the opportunity to take your career to the next level through an innovative graduate degree program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.   The Master of Engineering in Logistics (MLOG) program is the gateway to a successful career in logistics and supply chain management.  And judging from your impressive score on the GMAT, we believe you would be an excellent candidate for our program.

Companies worldwide are turning to logistics and supply chain management to give them a strategic advantage, among them Dell, Wal-Mart and Procter & Gamble.  Whether they are sourcing overseas or implementing smart object (RFID) technology, companies in industries ranging from retail to pharmaceuticals to manufacturing are incorporating logistics into their business plans - and they're hiring MLOG graduates to develop and implement the change.

Initiated in the fall of 1998, the MLOG program was designed to supply the global logistics industry with a new type of supply chain professional.  MLOG graduates are highly trained in both analytical problem solving and change management leadership.  We stress that discovering the best solution to a problem is only half the battle - it has to be implemented.  For these reasons and many others, US News and World Report has ranked MIT first among all graduate business programs in the area of logistics and supply chain management for the past several years.

The MLOG degree is completed in nine months (September through May) on the MIT campus in Cambridge, MA.  During that time, students take specialized classes taught by leading logistics and supply chain professionals in areas such as logistics systems, supply chain design, inventory planning and transportation management.   They also take a number of electives from across MIT, including courses in the Sloan School of Business.

In addition to interacting with the world-class faculty at MIT, MLOG students are given the opportunity to work closely with corporate members of the Center for Transportation & Logistics (CTL) on research projects and travel to our newest global logistics center in Spain - for a supply chain education that spans the globe.

Graduates of the MLOG program work around the world in leading edge manufacturing, retailing, consulting, and software firms like Dell, Frito-Lay, Toyota, Lucent, Home Depot, Staples, UPS, Accenture, McKinsey, and Cap Gemini.  And as demand for experts in supply chain management grows, the salaries are increasing.  The median outgoing salary for the class of 2004 was 80 percent higher than the class's median salary at the time of enrollment in the Fall of 2003.

While the MLOG program requires a strong analytic background, you need not be an engineer.   For program details, check out the MLOG website at http://web.mit.edu/mlog.

Applications are now being accepted for enrollment in September 2005.  The program has two admissions rounds.

Round I Deadline            January 15
Round II Deadline           April 1

Students who are interested in applying for department or university grants and fellowships MUST apply in Round I.  We also strongly encourage international students to apply in Round I to allow more time for visa processing.

You can apply for the program on-line or download a program application at http://web.mit.edu/mlog/admissions/.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email or call me.  You may also contact our Admissions Coordinator Becky Schneck Allen at (617) 324-MLOG (6564) or at bschneck@mit.edu.

I got the offer from MLOG this year but I didn't accept it due to personal issue.  I called one of the current student in this program and she was not very satisfied with her experience their.  Unlike the MBA program, which focuses on all kinds of business areas, MLOG is a little bit related to academic field in logistics.  However, it's a new program and MIT is also famous for its MBA program - Supply Chain and Logistics.
