Acme Publishing Company VS. Speed-Reading Course (33min 18sec, 573 words) The following is a recommendation from the personnel director to the president of Acme Publishing Company."Many other companies have recently stated that having their employees take the Easy Read Speed-Reading Course has greatly improved productivity. One graduate of the course was able to read a 500-page report in only two hours; another graduate rose from an assistant manager to vice president of the company in under a year. Obviously, the faster you can read, the more information you can absorb in a single workday. Moreover, Easy Read would cost Acme only $500 per employee—a small price to pay when you consider the benefits. Included in this fee is a three-week seminar in Spruce City and a lifelong subscription to the Easy Read newsletter. Clearly, to improve productivity, Acme should require all of our employees to take the Easy Read course."Write a response in which you discuss what questions would need to be answered in order to decide whether the advice and the argument on which it is based are reasonable. Be sure to explain how the answers to these questions would help to evaluate the advice. While it may seems seem the recommendation 这句话不完整啊from the personnel director necessary that Acme Publishing Company should propose every employee to take the Easy Read Speed-Reading Course.By taking the不要the close scrutiny of the recommendation, I found it is rife of with flaws in its assumptions, and there are many questions that the author must be answeredanswer in order to prove its reliability.credibility. First of all, the author provides two examples of people gaining their success to tell that the course is useful and effective. However, the assumption is full of flaws and it is unclear to me. For example, the graduate who reads 500 pages in two hours fails to provide the information of what kind of book he/she is reading; perhaps the book is in elementary level that each page only contains few lines. 前面这个例子题目的意思在于这个课程是有效的,能够增加rendering阅读速度的,因此有一个比较的问题,但在这里并没有交代,所以你最直接的质疑是关于比较的问题,有比较才说明问题The other example is even more nebulous to me – perhaps the person is successful because he is excellent in managing the company, or perhaps he obtains special skills that nobody has in the company. The example thus shows that the author must answer this question: how is the quality of the course? If the author doesn’t provide specific information(如果你能对这个specific information举出一两个小例子就比较好) to answer this question, the recommendation will not be persuasive. Secondly, the author thinks that faster reading will allow people to obtain more information, thus people increase their productivity in work. However, the faster a person reads, the higher chance that the person miss misses important information, argument中不要有个人认知方面的语句,即使要写,最好不写成肯定句,最好是带有探讨性口气的,比如possible等,这里题目认为是读的速度跟信息摄取能力相关,你提的问题就是是否必然相关,需要什么样的信息才可以说明.; the author overlooks the fact that understanding the contents and absorbing useful information is more important absorbing every bit of information. In this case, why is the course important to people? In what area that is related to work does a person improve from having this course? The author must provide specific detail about what materials the course will teach, and how the course enhances people’s ability for their work, and what kind of work will have better benefit from learning fast reading. Otherwise, I will not support author’s recommendation based on that. At last, the author provides an assumption that all employees from the company should take the course, when the price is $500 per employee. It may seem exciting that if everyone learns the skill, then it will be beneficial to the company. However, as I mention above, this assumption also fails to realize the fact that not everyone is necessary to take the course. This fact comes with another the other questions: if everyone is necessary to take the course, what will happen to the company during the period when everyone is out of work and having the class? Is the course really beneficial to the company? How many people will be taking the course? Will it be possible that because of the uncertainty of the quality of the course and large number of employees who take the course, the company faces a deficit? The author must answer these questions and provide reliable data such the number of people in the company who need to take the course, how will the company gain advantage from this course, etc. in order to strength his assumption. Otherwise, this assumption will only undermine the author’s purpose.虽然是关于question的题目,但也不要太多问题,一段里面两个足以,然后给出自己举出的可能性的回答。 It is good to let employees to learn a new skill for the company, as the author proposes, the faster reading course may be useful. However, the recommendation is ambiguous and full of flaws, not only these reasons undermines the purpose of the author, but also telling people that this recommendation is only for commercial processshould not be considered. The author must answer the above questions, so that the recommendation will be even more convincible. Two examples is not correct;Faster reading is not good than understand infoEveryone need to take it? Price? Deficit?
