看了以前大家的讨论，虽然在答案上观点不一，但是好像大家全认为that定从的修饰对象是relation(s)。可是我觉得that指代的是episodes, that从句和介词短语(in the relations between nations)共同修饰episodes，这样逻辑上才讲得过去。several little-known episodes illustrate what is wrong是不是比 relations illustrate what is wrong在逻辑上更讲得通一些？

同意gmat700+，episodes作为修饰对象更好。

原因：这里illustrate的意思应该是：to be an example which shows that something is true or that a fact exists(longman), To clarify by serving as an example or comparison（kingsoft),  to make clear by giving or by serving as an example or instance (webster).    episodes可以作为examples，relation好像不可以。

另外，between+ >2 应该是可以的。如：relations between people of different races（longman）。

根据偶的经验，GMAT中，象多重介词结构A in the B between C that 中的that是不能指向B的，因为B不是整个短语的中心词，也不就近。同时，本题语义上可以排除B和C指向that的可能性。那么C实际上A指向that是明晰的。

现在我会选C。

but why use thethat illustrates?i think episodes is a pl.noun,so how to explain this verb?

谢谢leeon gg支持。这道题我第一次做和第一次总结的时候也把relations作为定于从句的修饰对象。但是现在第二次总结时就怎么也想不通为什么relations是修饰的中心词了。

这道题可是伤脑筋啊，说说偶的疑惑...

看了前辈的讨论，C里面的that从句修饰对象不清，那么我有同样的问题：B里面的that从句有没有可能修饰one nation?

我觉得好像可以。如果说可以，那么就不能用此理由来排除C, 就要从句意来判断。那么我同意选C, tianwan, leeon都已经解释的很清楚了。

不知道我的想法对不对...

犹豫了老半天，最终还是觉得C好。当时我选B，没仔细考虑逻辑意思，只觉得illustrates单数指relation单数十分明确，C的动词指代似乎不太清楚。现在看，illustrate的对象一般总是example这类表示例子的东西，所以，episode和illustrate本身在逻辑上应该也匹配得很好；而且，如tianwan所说，relations between + pl.也是可以接受的。
