Whether life has become easier and more comfortable than it was when my grandparents were children has aroused much controversy in society, since people can view this problem from different angles. But I can't agree any more with this claim, because I have always heard my grandma appreciating her present life rather than recalling the past. Also my reasons are presented threefold in the following words.
First, transportation have become more convenient for people, making them commuting easier to wherever they want. In my grandparents' time, they used to travel to other places on foot, in horse carriages or on more "advanced" tools-bycicles. My grandma once told me that, when a woman was giving birth to a child at her time, her families had to walk a long distance to call the doctor, posing danger to the mother's life. Those vehicles have caused people great trouble. Because once they had an emergency, it was impossible to get to the destination as soon as possible. It was hard for my grndparents to imagine cars, airplanes and ships can carry people at such a quick rate. And the transportation networks have also developed over the entire globe. It's very convenient for people to travel to different places within a short period of time.
Also, electronic communication tools have emerged as major contacting method for people. My mother used to attend a college in a faraway place from home, so Grandparents had to wait for her letter to report her condition for months because there was no telephones in rural areas. But now, iPhones, computers and televisions have enabled people to connect with outside world in a more effecient way. We can use cellphones to greet frineds and families, making online chatting on computers also with many social networks such as Facebook and Twitter, watching television to catch up with current affairs. These advanced electronic communication tools have shortened the distances between people and made life easier.
Admittedly, with technologies developing and industries mushrooming, we have also experienced a worse environment than the time when our grandparents lived. But out government and many NGOs have devised new strategies to cope with these problem, for example, restricting the emission of carbon dyoxide, appealing to the great masses to care more about the environment, and planning to achieve many indicators that can measure a good and comfortable country for people to live. Those global climate summits, such as the United Nations Copenhagen Climate Change Summit and other important national and international behaviors, have proved the effective steps taken by the world to tackle with the environmental pollutions. Following these start-ups, people will certainly have a cleaner environment.
In a nutshell, our life today is surely easier, and more comfortable. Just as my grandma said, transportations have become more convenient for people, electronic communication tools have become accessible and the enviroment has turned better under many effective national and transnational measures. When my grandparents were children, they could never picture their future would be such a cozy and easy place to live in. |
