Claim: In any field business, politics, education, government those in power should step down after five years.
Reason: The surest path to success for any enterprise is revitalization through new leadership.
Write a resoponse to which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim and the reason on which claim is based.
As a man said "Absolute power leads to absolute corruption". So there is no doubt that long-term of leadership is not a wise decision for such field business, politics, education and government.
Once a leader have power in a long period, he will abuse his power. In China it is easy to find that a man abuse his power to promoting his relatives because his long-term leadership. Moreover, this absolute power also leads to corruption. A case in point is the incidence of Water Gate scandal. Nixon abuse his power to spy the meeting of Democratic Party in order to maintain his position for a longer period of time which eventually led to his resignation from the presidency and destroy the image of government in the mind of its citizens that aroused significant distrust of government work.
For leadership's power abusing and corruption many excellent companys lose leading position in their firlds or even bankrupt. In some dictatorship countries, a family have the absolute power and the power will pass on from one generation to next generation. So they can do everything they want and do not care about what citizens think, which always make the citizens suffering the physical pain and mental pain. They may inhibit the development of the country, even worse the government will leads the nation to disappear. As the North Korea, the supreme power have handed on three generations, but the entire country did not developing so much and can not keep the pace of world developing. Citizens can not live a better life in the absolute power, this make the country fall behind other countries. Absolute power inhibit the creativity, new ideas can not be accessible, which make the country lose the opportunity to develop its economy and education.
For university, the only way to keep the freedom of scholar is limiting the long term leadership, keeping away from the politics and bring new ideas. So a limit of term is very importsnt, not only it can prevent corruption but also can bring fresh blood. Without long period leadership, enterprises can get new ideas and vitality. After Steve Jobs became the CEO of Apple, new products and innovations appeared and Apple got big success. Without a limit of term, the leader won't as positive as the first several years. And if no supervision, enterprise and government would probably lose the aspiration.
Not all fields should establish such limiting of term, in which field need experience and stability, frequently change of leadership is not wise decision. Some projects established by government can't be completed by changing leader, public will question government's credit and distrust the next perspective leader. Such circumstance needs a long-term goal and five years term is not sufficient to achieve the goal. Although it is true, most field need a limiting of term to ensure healthly development, long-term leadership can inhibit its development or even destroy it.
Every coin has two sides, weighing the advantages and disadvantages, a five years period of leadership is a best choice for most fields. |
