The authour claims that the reputation of anyone who is subjected to media scruity will eventually diminished thereby it is impossible for a society to regard any living man or women as a hero. While it is true that media scruity are so harsh that escaping from reputation damage seems impossible, true heroes stand the trial. Moreover, media scrutiny actually serves to screen real heroes. Admittedly, there is no denying the fact that people’s reputation gets diminished easily in this time. Consider Bill Clinton’s sexscandal, Kennedy’s ex-marital scandal and Nixon’s Water Gate scandal, each of which covered by the media and greatly damaged the reputation of these three presidents. If without media scruity, those figures may still remain well reputated. So it’s true that, nowadays, with the fast development of information age, more and more medias are springing up, which are trying all their strength to dig out every indecent piece of public people’s live to cater to readers’ taste and demand. Therefore, anyone’s reputation is getting easier and easier to be diminished. However, true heroes’ reputation persists through media scruity. The truth that figures like Bill Clinton, Nixon and Kennedy mentioned above didn’t make their reputation through media scruity doesn’t mean that true heroes’ reputation are damaged by the media, rather, it shows public the true criterion of a true hero, who not only behaves outstandingly in public life but also remains self-disciplined and keeps high moral standards thus gives media scruity on chance to diminish their reputation. What’s more, as for true heroes, the contributions are so great that some of their wrongdoings can be neglected. Take Roosevelt for an instance. Though his ex-marital scandal, people still consider him a real hero for saving American’s economy through the recession by implementing new policies. Thereby, true heroes’ reputation undergoes media scruity with little diminishment. Furthermore, media scruity can function as a sift which tells fake heroes from true heroes. In this information age, there are people who using the Internet or other virtual ways to build themselves as role models, such as someone devoting himself to helping poor children. But what’s real is that these so called role modes are actually imposters who take advantages of the dissemination of virtual information to disguise them as ‘role models’. Nevertheless, many people still tend to believe that these so called role models exists in real life because of the overwhelming influence impsosed by advertising. In this situation, if media keeps tracking to cover every aspects of these fake role models’ life, imposters will eventually expose who they really are thus help people to clarify true heroes. Hence, media scruity actually contributes society to distinguish and identify true heroes. To sum up, despite the truth is that people’s reputation diminishes easily by media scruity which gets in people’s life by every opening, real heroes’s reputation persists because of their maintaining high requirements of both their public and private life. In addition, rather than damaging people’s reputation, media scruity serves to pick out fake heroes of our time. |
