求助PREP08语法笔记 196(OG12-11)

想了很久没想明白所以一改潜水作风来一发求助帖，正确的句子是这样的：There are several ways to build solid walls using just mud or clay, but the most extensively used method has been to form the mud or clay into bricks, and, after some preliminary air drying or sund drying, to lay them in the wall in mud.把这句句子的枝枝叶叶去掉之后应该是....the most extensively used method has been to do....,and to do ....
我想不通的地方在于既然是to do and to do 为什么and前可以加一个逗号，不是只有两个句子用and连接时and前才要加句号吗？求助求助！

不是的，我的意思是两者并列，to do and to do 之间是不是应该没有逗号的，如果是三者甚至四个并列当然可以在最后一个and前加逗号。在两者并列当中只有两个clause才能在连词and前加逗号。因为第五版曼哈顿在讲到平行结构的时候说的是两个clause平行的话and前可以有一个optional comma，像我这句句子中是两个to do并非两个clause。
