The lecture apparently disproves what is argued in the reading material.According to the passage, the purpose and meaning of the carved stone balls werenot clear and the author provides three posible theories to speculate them.However, the professor refutes each of the theories with explicite evidences.

At the very begining, contrary to the belief that the carved stone ballswere used as weapons, the lecture assert that if it's true, the balls caneasily be cracked, but most of them were well preserved with no damage. This,to some extent, suggests the carved stone balls were not used as weopons.

What's more, the reading concieves that the carved stone balls were usedto measure weight which doesn't convince the professor either. She contendsthat the balls are of different types thus have diffrent density which meansballs of the same size can have varies of weight.

Last but not least, the reading states that the carved stone ballsserved as the representation of social status. The professor contradicts to itwith the evidence that the balls are of intricate design ranging fromcomplicate patterns to simple graphs and, further more, they haven't been foundin the graves of people with high social status. Thus they have no possibilitiesto repesent social status.

the advice from our grandparents have no use for their grandchildren because the world changed a lot during the past 50 years.

Have you ever used the computer to calculate the final scores of more than 600 students to figure out a ranking list? Have you ever tried to make friends though letters only but finally find it much easier to communicate online though Skype? Have you ever been treated by folk remedy but result in worse situation? If you have never had such experiences, you would never know how the old methods provided by the grandparents unsuitable for life today.

The invention of new technologies’ takes the place of the very majority of the old method. For example, when calculating scores in a large database, grandparents may suggest us to use the abacus to speed up, some of the seasoned old people can calculate really fast by the way, but most of the grandchildren are not familiar with it, even if teenagers learn to make a good use of it, the speed is not at the same magnitude of the computer. Not to speak of the accuracy.

The traditional social manners have been deeply rooted in the mind of the aged, unlike the old, youngsters now are surrounded with a changing culture which is, to some extent, very different compared to the past. For example, in grandparents' mind, boys and girls should not touch each other before they get married according to the traditional culture. However, it's almost impossible nowadays. Not to speak of lovers, even those in pure friendship or partnership are likely to give each other a handshake or hug to show their respect and polite. That is to say, those who keep in manners like the grandparents urged will definitely be seen as social withdraw and weird.

I have to admit that the philosophy of dealing oneself and others arisen long ago may still work today such as to be honest, considerate and responsible in relationships. The way to show those characters, on the other hand, have been changed and it's common that the grandparents recommend the kids to do something for being nice but the result indicates that method just doesn't work or leading it to a worse condition. Just take my roommate Sarah as an example, her grandma told here to keep a distance from all the boys in her class which directly cause her unpopularity among the whole class and even the girls don't like to attach to her because they thought her to be indifferent. Therefore, the suggestion of grandparents have no use, if it's not negative influence, to the grandchildren.
