求教modifier的虐心问题！！

在看manhattan里面讲modifier时说都要求有noun才可以，但有一种例外是“infinitives of purpose can be used with unamed agents in passive-voice sentence”,但是后面又说an infinitive of purpose needs to indicate the purpose of some one...真心给跪了！！求大神指点！！！

就是说，the weight was lifted to free my leg就对，但是the boulder rolled to free my leg就不对。。。我也知道读起来很别扭，但是不知道为什么。。。

In each case, the subject I makes sense: I was whistling "Beat It, " I was concentrating, I wanted
to free my leg. Make sure that these modifiers have a sensible subject in the sentence.
Wrong:The weight was lifted by concentrating.
Wrong:The weight was lifted to free my leg.
