there is/are a young man and an old woman at the bus stop.是is还是are呀?

when two nouns are connected by" and". (it is a compound object and should be considered plural)
here, there is a dummy subject (a young man and an old woman are there at the bus stop)

一般来讲duke是对的 when two nouns are connected by" and". (it is a compound object and should be considered plural)
OG 12-82 According to a recent poll, owning and living in a freestanding house on its own land is still a goal of a majority of young adults, as it was of earlier generations.
