感觉C肯定比D好啊。
C的逻辑主语都在强调purchase。而D的主语是US，后面的ing肯定不是在修饰US。

the comma +ving modifier here is used to describe the immediate consequence（namly that the consequence after the purchase）

US在这里是逻辑主语（逻辑主语不一定要发出这个动作...but it should somewhat be involved or play a role in this consequence）

尽管US不是doubling的直接发出者，但你不能否认的是，US买了这块地，这块地使US的国土面积增加（ the US is an indirect agent here） ..the sentence makes sense
