I concede to the view that it is important for universities to make students take courses which will help their jobs in t future.But theview of taking a variety of courses is still reasonable for a better education. Maybe there is a eclectic way for both of the views.
Admittedly,the courses leading to jobs are important to student of university. First of all, many students go to university for better jobs in the future. And going to university is a kind of investment for the future. Jobs will finally lead to the economic foundation of the students which will finally solve problems of accommodation,marriage and a high quality life. Secondly, the courses which help students prepare for their jobs provided by the university will make those students on a advantage position. In the competition of jobs. These courses make them more confident and more skilled which may finally let them get those jobs. Finally,when students graduate from the universities,if they can't find a job and have no money to sustain a family,then people will ask the universities what they have educated that make students even homeless. Even when they find jobs finally,if they find that they have learned in universities do not have any help to their jobs,they will in turn question the education of universities. And both of the situations will shake the position of universities in people's mind.
However,it is not enough for university students to just take courses that will lead to jobs and taking a variety of courses outside their fields will benefit their all-round education. On the one hand,the purpose of university education is not to make students to be qualified workers who can manipulate machines or follow the direction proficiently.Instead,the education of university is responsible to teach students how to think of questions and solve problems on their own.Even on their job position,they will come across problems and what they have to do is think all-round and deal with it. Taking a variety of courses outside their own majors will help them to think of problems in different positions and angles. On the other hand,if university just make students take courses which will help their jobs in the future may be too utilitarian. After graduation, what students have to face is not just job but a variety of things in the society. Taking a variety of courses will help them have a broad knowledge of the whole world and society And this will cultivate all-round individuals for a better development.
Moreover, it is not rational enough if universities compel students to take a variety of courses outside their own fields. Perhaps some students have difficulty studying their own majors and it is important for them to study those courses which will help their jobs first . If they are compelled to take other courses,it just not worth the candle. Maybe there is a eclectic policy to set up both elective courses and required courses for students to choose. In sum,both of the views is reasonable in certain position but they just reflect a side of the university courses. In addition, compulsory actions will not benefit the cultivation of the studentsand the eclectic policy may be better
