38) It is primarily through ouridentification with social groups that we define ourselves. Write a response in which you discuss theextent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain yourreasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting yourposition, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might nothold true and explain how these considerations shape your position. The arguer claims that we identify ourselvesmainly by the social groups that we take part in. This opinion indicates theimportance of social groups to people in the modern society. I agree insofarthat the social groups which we are involved in reflect at least some of ourcharacteristics while, other chromatic dimensions of personality are beyond theinfluence of these groups. As social animals, human beings buildvarious social circles or connections between individuals as a web forcommunication of information. The social groups become very common among peoplewith the similar social positions, interests, and other likely relationships.By observing certain groups an individual takes part in, one can drawconclusions about his personal information like age, gender, career, etc, whichis easily betrayed by the essences and activities of the groups. The upperclass in China ,for instance, is defined as enthusiastic in some clubs whose members alwayspurchase luxury goods, play golf, and travel abroad out of their confidence inpersonal financial condition. However, the social groups one attends atbest represent a limited part of his real personal life in details. Due to theadvanced development of technology people are capable of maintaining a hugenumber of social circles at the same time, which means that a retired worker can afford the ticket to share thechance of a drama show in the theater with a millionaire who also is a big fanof the actor. This temporary relation of these people includes them into a momentarygroup sociologically. Apparently it seems intricate to define people merelyfrom his social groups. Moreover, social groups can sometimes be a relativelypersonal affair to an individual, which makes it more difficult to obtaininformation through that to evaluate its owner. What truly defines us is the personal performancein front of other social numbers. Thanks to the coming of media age everyone inthe society, accessible to the internet, are given chances to expresshimself/herself. Every day, hundreds of millions of people surf the internetand among which many watch videos on websites of YouTube for example. People onthose websites take interesting short films about their life and as aconsequence people regard those popular figures as integrate individualswithout any judgments towards their original social groups such as races and ornationalities. In retrospect, it seems precipitous toconstrain people's characters with the preconceptions on their social groups. As an individual in the age of information explosion, personality differentfrom each other seems to become the only and most significant symbol todistinguish himself/herself among the fellow people who share the more or less akinsocial groups. Thus, keeping away from the assimilation by modern social groupsis increasingly important in personal development. 欢迎点评!谢谢谢谢 |
