【跳跃修饰问题】请各位NN进来看看这个句子的核心词是哪一个

根据sjmdlyc的牛帖（http://forum.chasedream.com/GMAT_SC/thread-499613-1-1.html）
在前有“核心词+（非从属关系的）介词结构 / 分词修饰结构 / 插入语”的情况下，which跳跃修饰前面的核心词，不能修饰紧邻的名词。

但是，a result of the growing number of automobiles的结构不是 A of B 从属结构吗？那么which应该就近修饰automobiles才对啊

请问这里的“a result of...”的结构到底是不是从属关系结构呢？这句话的核心词到底应该是result还是automobiles呢？

正确答案是D吧？

directions are determined as a result of collisions.
collisions的consequence就是决定星的directions。这肯定是不对的。collision的结果有很多，directions只是个附加。

Right: the man was died as a result of being shot at his head
