I can understand C is correct. However in the og explaination, it says that "While in some constructions, such as the most frightening and most intense, the would be understood and so would not need to be repeated, the definite article the is required in this superlative form construction."

Can Someone clarify that under what condition, the can be omitted?

我感觉只有当明确的表示最高级且没有任何修饰的情况下，the才可以被省略

上面这个结构似乎还可以简化成the most frightening and intense，

但是如果fightening的修饰对象不是一个人或物，或者修饰的程度不一样，或者范围不一样时the不能省略。比如这题里的排名第十的most和排名第一的intense的话，就需要使用两个独立的最高级。

个人认为这样有歧义. 即可表示最frightening and 最intense, 也可表示最frightening and 一般intense.
