10 Twenty years ago, Dr. Field, a noted anthropologist, visited the island of Tertia. Using an observation-centered approach to studying Tertian culture, he concluded from his observations that children in Tertia were reared by an entire village rather than by their own biological parents. Recently another anthropologist, Dr. Karp, visited the group of islands that includes Tertia and used the interview-centered method to study child-rearing practices. In the interviews that Dr. Karp conducted with children living in this group of islands, the children spent much more time talking about their biological parents than about other adults in the village. Dr. Karp decided that Dr. Field's conclusion about Tertian village culture must be invalid. Some anthropologists recommend that to obtain accurate information on Tertian child-rearing practices, future research on the subject should be conducted via the interview-centered method.

Anthropologists always use different mathod to study. However, following their own mind, they might be entirely ignorant of question which would influence the whole research. In the study of the Tertian (T), the researchers' conclusion of the culture there is absent of some critical envidence for answering questions.
After Dr.Field (F) studied T island, he conclude the children there were reared by the whole village at 20 years ago, which meaned the culture of T included that a child grow up without rearing of their own parents. All his conclusion is based on the observation-centered method. The threshold question of the conclusion is that the children might be living around the village diurnally, which could be observated, but they would back home to their own house and live with their biological parents at night. Even they were actually reared by other adults, another question is that study was progressing 20 years before. The concreted time fails to represent the tranditional culture before, for the people would change it to a kind of extent, either the current customs.
Although we would not approve the conclusion of F, Dr.Karp (K) ,who study the culture currently, might be fail to prove his new conclusion in result of the questions of his research. K illustrates that the group of islands he visited recently is able to demonstrate the culture of T. It is a question about the range of a survey. The entirely condition would not be the same of a partion in it, which might be a common culture of all the examples in the survey. Furthor more, even though the children are always talking about their biological parents in both T and the other islands of the group, F should have not assumed that the children's rearing is ensurely responsible to the own parents. For the reason that, talking is only a behavior but not a particular evidence. If K want to conclude his study, he need more details, in addition.
The recommendation of some anthropolpogists is talking about the method of research. It cited that by using interview-centered, the future researech would be conducted. First, one research would not be finished by only one method and one conclusion. The anthropological study is complex for the different perspectives of each one. Secondly, we could not indicate that culture of an area could be represented by the interviewers' word. It is because of the differences between subjuective and the objective. To improve the recommendation, they should combine more methods' details so that the research may be objectively.
To sum up, the recommendation need more details to be improved. The concreted time fails to represent the tranditional culture before, for the people would change it to a kind of extent, either the current customs. Combine more methods' details might be a way for a objective research. |
