GWD31 -26-20

"D is wrong b/c we don't know who compared" compared

102. Compared to those who do not, running three days a week saves an average of 14.1 percent on health-care costs each year in the United States.

A. Compared to those who do not, running three days a week saves

B. Compared with nonrunners, people who run three days a week save

C. Compared to not running, those running for three days a week save

D. When compared with those who do not, people running three days a week save

E. When compared to nonrunners, running three days a week saves

A: compared 比较对象不对等;who do not不完整

B: correct

D: who do not不完整

1、             compare with同类对象比较,compare to比喻

2、             compare

3、             when compared withcompared with是一个意思

GWD31 -30-41

B is correct, and A is definitely wrong b/c of the "which"

the "compared" cannot be used here b/c at the beginning, it was talking about children, then it was compared with time.  The OG sentence below is different b/c "people" is clearly the subject of comparison.

Which can refer to elk too.就近指代is not an important issue here.

In 1981 children in the United States
                spent

by 1997 that figure had
                grown to

the had grown is acceptable.

I suggest Brother Cold2100 do more og, gwd, and Prep exercises, you will find out that this tense has no problem.

allow that 貌似是承认的意思,eg:He allowed that I had the right to appeal. Even if we allow that the poet was mad.....
