题目释义：Many entomologists say that campaigns.....have failed...., thus making....

这题楼主实在没有理解划线部分的意思，题目是说一些生物学家认为在美国消灭火蚁的方法是失败的，因为使用的化学物质只有在什么情况下才会有效，因此。。。
D选项中的It指代什么呢，选项中说什么对蚂蚁的扩散更容易了。。。，求解惑

it 是形式宾语

你不是没读懂划线的意思而是前面的意思没读懂因为化学物质只能杀死蚂蚁的天敌，因此反而让蚂蚁扩散变得更容易

划线的意思是因为那些化学物质只能把蚂蚁的天敌有效的消灭的而不能有效地消灭蚂蚁

d的it指代后面的不定式to spread在gmat中it一般指代不定式或指代that从句
