答案是B，我觉得E也是对的，因为我觉得不补出动词does也不会产生歧义呃。还是说a protein怪怪的？应该不可数吧。不过答案没提这点。
In this sentence, theinitial clause modifies the nearest noun, identifying it as the thing beingcompared with wheat. By making protein the noun modified, choicesA, C, and D illogically compare wheat with protein(是指In addition to having more protein than wheatdoes这个从句里面) and claim that the protein in rice hasmore protein than wheat does. In C and D, the comparative structure higherin quality than it is in wheat absurdly suggests that rice protein containswheat. B, the best choice, logically compares wheat to rice byplacing the noun rice immediately after the initial clause. B also uses thatto refer to protein in making the comparison between the proteins ofrice and wheat. Choice E needs either thatin or does after wheat to make a complete and logicalcomparison.

比较pro in rice 以及 pro in wheat有两种方式：
pro in rice is more XXX than that in wheat;
rice has more XXX than wheat do.
因此答案显而易见。

撇开这道题不说，我只是想说，SC不是找正确答案，而是找最好的答案~ 小板栗是不是懂了我的意思~？

后来又想通了一点，E选项侧重rice和wheat的比较，但其实原句更focus on “quality” 的比较，所以B更契合一点。比如这个句子：
According to recent studies comparing the nutritional value of meat from wild animals and meat from domesticated animals, wild animals have less total fat than livestock fed on grain and more of a kind of fat thought to be good for cardiac health.是正确的，因为这里侧重的是wild animals和livestock之间不同属性的比较，如果在than之后加上that(也就是fat) of, 就变成wild animal拥有的总脂肪含量比wild animal拥有的livestock的脂肪含量少= =这样是不对的~所以这个例子里，就不能那样补出，只能用句子的比较。
所以回到那个quality的题。如果是句子的比较的话。就变成rice has protein higher in quality than wheat has protein.含义是不妥的。higher区别的是不同protein的quality。
lemon has more vitaminC than apple, 这样的含义是OK的= =, 因为比较的就是lemon和apple VC含量的多少。
请问我这样理解可对？

higher in quality 这是修饰protein的这个应该没有歧义吧~ 所谓的noun modifier
如果咱们换个角度
rice has more XXX(protien higher in quality) than wheat
...
...
rice has more XXX than wheat.
这下错误就很明显了吧，典型的歧义比较。

我的理解是，这不是楼主说的助动词补不补出的问题吧，选项B页没有补出动词，而是要比较对象对等，感觉如果选E就会有A protein 和 wheat做比较的歧义，而B选项，用that in wheat（protin in wheat）和前面的protein对等作比较就不会产生歧义了

B项当然不用补出动词啦。又不是句子的比较。
别的说的很对~
