答案选D ABC都排除得很自如，E那里错了。。which 指代bricks没有错啊，可以跳跃修饰的吧，而且谓语动词是were，为什么解释上说是在修饰mud or clay了....为什么为什么~~

E是正确答案，讲到B的错误时，笔记中解释是which指代the United States错误，应指代the river

为什么这里也不可以跳跃修饰？

还是像楼主的例子和我这里的例子which都不能跳跃指代主句中隔得比较远的主语？

嗯。D确实非常正确。但是E的解释中说which不能跳跃修饰了。这个怎么理解。通常都是说that不能跳跃修饰，而which可以的。

刚刚在prep07 语法指南里面看到一句话：

如果一个代词（如which）可以指代多个句中名词的时候，指代最近的那个

但是你看我的那道题。如果指代mud or clay的话谓语动词应该是单数啊但是E选项里是 were 所以应该只能指代 bricks才对啊
