有关修饰的歧义

大家先看一下这道OGverbal上的题目：
Initiated five centuries after Europeans arrived in the New World on Columbus Day 1992. Project SETI pledged a $100 million investment in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence.

用排除法最后只剩下C，没有问题。但是读了几遍正确选项后我又觉得这种句子结构并不是很好：Initiated on Columbus Day 1992, five centuries after Europeans arrived in the New World, Project SETI pledged......

因为黑线那部分即可向前修饰又有可能向后修饰，但巧的是这个句子中无论向前还是向后都是修饰同一个时间所以没有歧义

然而，如果把句子变成：Initiated on Columbus Day 1992 and completed on Christmas Day 1999, five centuries after Europeans arrived in the New World, Project SETI pledged....... 这样的话就会有歧义了，因为five centries..即可能修饰1999又有可能修饰pledge的时间（1992)

想听一下大家的看法

, five centuries after Europeans arrived in the New World,向前向后修饰都没有问题。

它是指代 C D1992，同时该project 也是在这一天pledeged.

一般MODIFIERA ,MODIFIERB, S V.

B修饰A为多。OG有一条解释是这么说的，忘了哪一题的了。LZ还看OG的话，可以仔细看一下。
