请帮分析个语法结构。。（已解决）

如果是里边的这个单句：Thomas Eakins's powerful style and his choices of subject were disturbing to his own time。那么were disturbing 这个应该是什么结构。
个人认为是主系表结构？
大家觉得呢。。。。。。。

这里的as...as...可以翻译为一方面...另一方面
Thomas Eakins's powerful style and his choices of subject 1)were disturbing to his own time 2) are compelling for ours..
曼哈顿论坛里说as...as...要求结构平行，后一个as补出主语they是因为are compelling是现在进行，前面是过去进行，时态不同补出比较好

曼哈顿论坛里说as...as...要求结构平行，后一个as补出主语they是因为are compelling是现在进行，前面是过去进行，时态不同补出比较好
