我觉得这个A里面的them没法指代illustration in her illustration是做状语的

变一下语序carefull coordinating them with her narratives in her book illustration, Beatrix Potter capitalized on her keen observation and love of the natural world.可以看出them没有指代任何东西

是插图（illustration)与记叙文（narratives）相协调，不是人(BP) 与记叙文相协调

此题考察的不是them的指代，你没有看到E选项过去式，应该和未画线部分的过去式capitalized并列做谓语动词。指代问题不应该成为我们首要的入角点，GMAC要考你指代问题的时候他会给的比较清楚，你一般都能够看得出来的。

A中的主语BP离他的动词capitalized太远；主句中的动词capitalized为过去时，若前面采用现在分词会使协调和依靠这两件事的时间顺序混淆，两件事应该都是发生在过去的

从网上抄的“that can not refer to "book illustrations". in her book illustrations is in paranthesis and we should be able to remove the content of the subordinate clause without impacting the mail clause. However, "them" has no reference if in her illustrations is removed. The antecedent to a pronoun in the main clause of the sentence cannot occur only in phrase in paranthesis.‘，意思作为插入成分，我们就得直接视而不见？
