请教一道语法题!谢谢!

A recent study has found that within the past few years, many doctors had elected early retirement rather than face the threats of lawsuits and the rising costs of malpractice insuance.

A. had elected early retirement rather than face
B. had elected early retirement instead of facing
C. have elected retiring early instead of facing
D. have elected to retire early rather than facing
E. have elected to retire early rather than face

想请教一下大家为什么这道题不能用过去完成时？
我的想法是doctors elect to retire是发生在 a study has foud之前的....orz
后面的平行结构我明白了...就是时态上还搞不太清楚...
答案解释上说过去完成时强调动作在过去已经完成了...我就是觉得已经完成了...orz
过去完成时有过去的过去完成并持续到现在的意思吗?

in/within/during/over the past/last/recent +时间段，这个是现在完成时的标志

首先，顶楼上，within+过去时间就是现在完成时态的标志词；
其次，你的那个想法稍有问题，在于，过去完成时是表示发生在过去某个动作之前的动作，两个动作都是发生在过去的，而这道题里面的has found是现在的时间上的动作，所以，就不能用过去完成时了。

感谢上面的前辈们！看来有必要好好归纳总结一下，发现G的语法和初高中学过的很多语法都不一样。
