fear的动作不是某个时间点上发生的，而是过去一段时间持续的动作。
个人意见，请牛牛们指正。

嗯。。。可是这句话除了那个had feared，木有出现任何其他任何过去式的标志词啊，过去完成时不是过去的过去么？

gains in the stock market已经发生，earlier in the year在gains之前，所以过去的过去，不知道对不对
