一道白勇语法，很不解，大家选什么呢？

（A）which was determined by when the sun reached the observer's meridian and differing

（B）which was determined by when the sun reached the observer's meridian and which differed

（C）which were determined by when the sun reached the observer's meridian and differing

（D）determined by when the sun reached the observer's meridian and differed

（E）determined by when the sun reached the observer's meridian and differing
答案竟然选E，完全不明白，这不很明显选D嘛，reached 和 differed 平行做when引导的从句的谓语啊，NN们意思呢？

现在分词和过去分词是可以构成平行结构的……

reach和differ平行吗？ reach的主语是sun，differ的主语是事件吧。当地时间在不同的城市不同。
E两个分次平行
我比较疑惑的是为啥B不对。

按lz的意思是，which was determined 和(which was省略) differring两个定语从句并列的结构

A和B都是was不对，应该是local times, which were determined。。。所以排除。。

C中前面是which were，要构成平行的话，后面应该是and which differed。。which were... and differing构不成平行。

而且local times其实永远都是determined by when the sun reached the observer's meridian 也永远都是 differ from city to city..

所以which were和which differed的时态也是不对的，因为这个是常识。。

所以看D和E，D中differed不对呀，因为不能用过去分词，有被动的含义了。。而local times differ from city to city是个主动的。。

而且就像上面有个同学说的，过去分词和现在分词是可以平行的。。

选E啦！

另外喔，还是得说一句，做改错，句意是关键！！！

就像上面有个问为什么B不对的一定是以为which从句修饰abolition了吧～～但是你读下意思，abolition怎么会determined by when the sun reached the observer's meridian and differing from city to city呢，对不对？XD

即使这样是可以的，后面的 which was differing成了过去进行时。。。

在我印象中，GMAT SC里有过过去进行时吗？我很少看到。也许自己做题太少了~

过去进行时是可以存在的，SC里也可以有。。但这里不应该用过去进行时，因为这个是一个常态的事件。。就好象你说地球绕着太阳转，是一个常态的事件一样。
