i will go for A (of course it is a wrong answer). but i actually wanna know, can "that" in choice A refer to "a goal" since OG said this "that" in choice A was ambiguous ?

以下仅代表个人观点 未划线部分有个still请注意，说这个依然是young adults的goal,正如前几代人一样。 所以我认为，as it was 这个句子是个省略句，不省略的话应该是as it was a goal of earlier generations. it 就指代了owning and living in a freestanding house on its own land. its可以替换为the house's 纯凭语感乱说话，呵呵如果不对希望大家也告诉我一下
单纯为这个its纠结一下。。。所以这个应该是 "owning and living in a freestanding house on the house's own land" ? 我纠结的点在于，这句话纯讨论意思的话，我的理解是：这个land应该是the young adults' own land.. 当然如果这么理解用its就肯定不对了。。这也是为什么，我觉得这个its有问题。如果理解成指代house's的话，在意思上觉得很别扭。 当然这句话是非划线部分，应该不会有错，就是不理解
