Besides addingcomplementary flavors to many foods，根据主谓一致，主语只能是hot sauces。排除D、E选项。C选项中both and的用法不对。B选项中的pain-relieving effect后用定语从句太啰嗦，并且应该用morphine's来表示morphine的效应。综合选A
