Q16:Soaring television costs accounted for more than half the spending in the presidential campaign of 1992, a greater proportion than it was in any previous election.

    1. a greater proportion than it was
    2. a greater proportion than比较错误
    3. a greater proportion than they have been
    4. which is greater than was so
    5. which is greater than it has been

Choice C is incorrect, because been has no antecedent. Furthermore, if for 1992 the costs already accounted for more than half the spending, in an election that happened before that of 1992, it is impossible to use the perfect have been.

    for further discussion...

我觉得应该是选A吧?it 指代前面那个more than half的比例.was过去时,表the previous election.

Soaring television costs accounted for more than half the spending in the presidential campaign of 1992
