正确选项是E，可是我的疑问是
1、besides是介词和副词两种词性，副词应该单用，此处作介词，那么这的besides一般搭配名词。好了，若果是“besides preventing or inhibiting，……”，那么这两现在分词可以理解为名词，但多了一个possibly ，明显使这两个ing变成动词形式，变成了修饰主句的状语，和besides也不能搭配。
2、就算问题1可以忽略，那么besides这个clause之后的句子应该包含并列成分，但之后的主句看不见任何并列成分。

按照这样理解
besides应该是副词

besides在这儿应该是副词，完全可以把它盖住不看，剩下的逗号前就是分词作伴随状语，逻辑主语是leaves。我的问题是其他几个选项错在哪了。
