看新语法笔记遇到的困惑，求助~

语法笔记里一个知识点：

(1)MISPLACED MODIFIER: Some modifiers, especially simple modifiers — only, just, nearly, barely — have a bad habit of slipping into the wrong place in a sentence. (In the sentence below, what does it mean to "barely kick" something?)

Confusion: He barely kicked that ball twenty yards.

Repair Work: He kicked that ball barely twenty yards.

不是很明白，为什么就副词放在动词前面就confuse了。。。难道不是就近修饰了吗？

这个barely应该修饰的是twenty yards吧文章里说what does it mean to "barely kick" something 就是说barely kick是不对劲滴

ls正解，类似于only。比如： only Aaron can understand 和 Aaron only can understand 是明显不一样的，这类词要放在被修饰词前面。

总结：这类词应 place immediately before the word or phrase it modifies.
