Topic: Younger school children (ages five to ten) should be required to study art and music in addition to math language ,science and history. In modern society, more and more parents increasingly pay attention to the education of children. In some asian countries such as Japan, to be admitted to a high-ranking junior high school, the children who study in fundamental school have to get a good grade in standardized tests which include mathematics, history and english. Hence, parents usually force their young children to focus on some basic courses such as mathematics and prohibit them from studying art and music because the parents think that studying art and music will draw their young children’s attention from basic courses. However, in the contrary, learning art and music will help young students not only in their academic pursuit, but also in life. First, learning art and music allows the young students to learn how to relax themselves in an efficient way. For example, in China, the young school children generally study at school over 8 hours per day and do homework at home in vicinity of 3 hours. After highly intense studying, the young students should to know how to fully relax themselves to perform well in the next period of hard working. Thus, music entered the picture. In fact, if one child could learn the appreciation of music, he would utilize music as a tool to release pressure. Four sociology professors set up a long-term experiment to investigate whether learning music and art would affect the children’s performance in academic pursuit. In one group, music teachers taught the children how to appreciate music. And after accomplishment of homework, the children were allowed to listen music for 30 minutes. But, the children in other group were forbidden to contact with music. 2 month later, the professors got an incredible consequence. The children who were allowed to listen music got an higher grade points average (GPA) than the children who were forbidden music. The children who were taught the knowledge of music said that they could get and full relaxation which helps them perform well in the next day. Second, the children who could learn art and music would gain more opportunities of becoming successful in the future. Some children have talent in art such as painting. If these children could learn art, they perhaps would walk toward another path which differs to other average children. For instance, Tianjing, one of the most intelligent artists in China, she learns art from 4 ages. During an interview, she claimed that her parents discover her talent when she was only 3 ages and took her into a children art class. If her parents ignored her talent and force her to pay all attention on academic pursuit, she would be a general person rather than an established artist. In reality, no one can grantee that all the children who learn art would gain a brilliant achievement like Tianjing do. However, the possession of art offers to the children more possibilities in their future career. For example, my best friend Jim, he learned painting for 10 years and did not obtain extraordinary success in painting. But, he works as an art teacher in a high school. In his perspective, this position is perfect to him. If he do not learn art when he was a child, he probably became a staff in a company and do some work he do not prefer to. In a conclusion, although the basic knowledge accumulation such as mathematics is crucial in modern society, I wholeheartedly agree the statement that the young school children should learn art not only for their performance in academic field, but also for their future life. 不好意思一下子写太多了…… |
